Shopping and ameneties

Shopping in the area covers everything from local organic groceries to a whole-day extravaganza!

Woolsery

Local shops and pubs are within approximately 20 minutes walking distance from the cottage. The local post office stocks newspapers and basic essentials and once a week there is a fresh fruit and vegetable market in the town. Also local is an interesting candle maker (almost opposite the pub), a massage service, a travelling hairdresser... Many of the local services are advertised in the parish magazine for Clovelly and Woolsery. You can pick these up at any post office in the area. Pubs - the Farmers Arms in Woolsery has an excellent menu and a very friendly atmosphere, but if you need any variation then the Hoops Inn on the A39 just a few minutes drive away makes a good alternative.

Clovelly

Clovelly is only a short drive away and has two pubs in the village, both of which serve excellent food. In addition to the goodies in the visitors Center, you can find a host of traditional arts and crafts where you can actually watch the goods being made. Warning, during high season the Clovelly community charge an entrance fee into the village.

Atlantic Village Outlet Shopping

Still officially under the province of Clovelly, the Atlantic Village Outlet Mall is a little gem. Also undercover for those days where the weather can be a little less than perfect, this center contains shops selling seconds or end of season goods where you can find up to 50% discount on any high street prices. Shops include Tog24, Virgin, Cadburys, Ecco Shoes, various underwear and fashion shops, luggage, jewelery, professional cookware and much more. Also includes a diner for mid-shopping snacks!

Barnstaple

Barnstaple not only covers the main high street shops but is also host to the Green Lanes Shopping Arcade in case the weather is not at it's best. In addition, Barnstaple has a historic center with quaint, old style butchers, fruit and veg and cheese or bread stalls. Also includes the Pannier Market, a large covered market in the center of town. Large multi-story parking for easy access by car.

Bideford

About a 20 minute drive away at the most, Bideford is a large town offering a range of pubs, clubs, cinema and nightlife. Shopping is quite local style offering many bookshops, antiques, furniture and even to a certain degree, a little in the way of tourist take-homes.

Exeter

Exeter is the capital city in Devon and is quite a drive away, so only necessary if there is something you particularly need that cannot be found locally. As with any other large towns it is quite busy with traffic and parking can be a little hairy, but once you make it there, there are a host of shopping opportunites to be found.

Bude, Cornwall

Pine Cottage is actually very close to the cornish border. Bude is a small town just over the border and is well worth a visit. It has a slight seasidey scent with many tourist shops, but the beaches are lovely and the highstreet shops are simply a change to what you would normally be used to. Many pubs, clubs and restaurants.
